Compression vs regular packing cubes: which one you need

A compression cube adds a second zipper that, once the cube is packed, cinches the whole thing smaller by squeezing trapped air out. What a regular cube actually does
This surprises people: a regular packing cube saves no space at all. Your clothes take up the same volume whether they are loose in a bag or boxed in a cube — the cube just makes that volume tidy, findable and stackable. What compression adds — and its honest limit
A compression cube removes trapped air, so the space it saves scales with how much air your clothes hold. On soft, bulky items — puffer jackets, sweaters, fleece, a week of t-shirts — the zip-down reclaims a genuinely useful chunk of a bag. On dense items like jeans, which hold almost no air, it does close to nothing. So the honest rule is: compression is worth it if you pack soft and bulky, and a waste of a zipper if you pack dense.
