A gym bag is not a small suitcase, and the reason it is unpleasant is not that it is untidy. It is that it holds two categories of thing that must not touch: the clothes you are going to wear afterwards, and the ones you just sweated through. A gym container gets dirty in a way a travel cube never does. Anything you buy here should survive a machine, and you should plan to put it through one regularly rather than waiting until it smells. The waterproof bags above specify machine washable; the fabric cubes wash too, with the usual caveats about heat and coated fabrics that our washing guide sets out.
Slim beats deep in a duffel
Most gym bags are duffels, and a duffel has no internal structure — so whatever you put in it defines the shape. Deep cubes roll and create dead space at the ends.
